Candle Lighting

LAST EDITED ON 13-Sep-01 AT 08:47 PM (EST)[p]To all:

I have been at work (in California) all day and briefly heard something on the radio about a candle light vigil. It is outside wherever you may be, at 7:00 pm on Friday September 14th in honor and remembrance of the victims of our devistating tragedy. Has anyone heard about this??

I've received a similar email and will light a candle too. I'm going to put up our flag outside the house every day.
BTW, I'm also in SoCal.

It's true, tonight at 7pm, local time, everyone is asked to light a candle. That's 7 no matter where you are, be is MA or CA. true it won't be all at once, but candles will be lit all around the nation. I think the reason is because if it was 7 here, then it would be like 4 there in Cali, and too early. If it was at 7 in Cali then it would be like 10pm in Mass, and too late for kids to participate. So everyone light your candles at 7pm local time, you can read about it at msn.com, I believe.

I wondered about that.

I'm setting an alarm clock as a reminder, with a candle next to it...

I think my candle was the only one out there where I am.

Still, after it was lit and placed - I watched a C-5A climbing out of Norfolk Naval Station. It was still light out, and it was very overcast.

Through a hole in the clouds- the sunset was visible, as the aircraft gradually disappeared into the haze.

Funny the way some scenes affect us, I thought about it for a long time after I could no longer hear the engines....

I can just see the C5A going up. I never thought I'd see the day that I didn't see a contrail in the sky. I watch planes all the time and so it was disturbing not seeing any contrails or even hear a prop.

It was with pride and some emotion to see a contrail Friday night as well as to see a couple of jets going again.

How about the image of the devil in the smoke after the 2nd plane hit? Once you see it in email you can see it in the actual footage, so I don't think it was rigged. Rather unsettling in any case.

I don't think I've seen that...where can you see it? Sounds like after the WTC bombing in 1993. Through the smoke you could see the face of a man who looked like a demon. Scary stuff.

Candle Lighting

I missed the candle lighting because I was working, but my girlfriend took the kids outside and lit the candles. They sat on the front porch for about 5 minutes and finally a few others came out. She decided to take the kids and start walking down the street with candles in hand. Others came down from their porches and joined them. Next thing you know, there was no less than 20 of them walking down the street together talking, getting to know one another, etc. She said it was a real site to see! Cars going by honking and waiving to them and giving the "thumbs up".

Thank you to all that responded to this posting. I was able to participate in the candle lighting on Friday and also participated in a community wide lighting in my neighborhood on Thursday. There was alot of participation. It is truely amazing how people can come together. Thank you to 77_f250_460 for the Huntington Beach pier information, although I did not get to go, I was able to call a few friends in Huntington and pass the information along, they were there.
Again, my thoughts and prayers go out to those affected by this needless tragedy, and hope that we as a nation can overcome this terrible loss. Wave your flags high, God Bless America!

Thank you
