I am running Ford SS headers and a Borla cat back in my '91 302. I don't have the performance sound that I would like. Any thoughts on running a Flowmaster 40 series, or just a straight pipe eliminating the muffler.
More than likely the cat is killing your sound. A high flow cat will help out as well as anything. I have the Magnaflow and it is a nice mellow burble at idle and will let you know it's there when you apply the skinny pedal. Straight pipes with a factory cat will increase the sound, but the resonance is developed within the muffler used as well as back pressure adequate for torque generation. What intake/throttle body mods have you made?
The Flowmaster 40 series will give you the sound you want, thats all I added to my stock exhaust and it did the trick. Also a performance cam helps give it that thump, thump, thump sound we all love.
It's great to hear from a member who balanced the improvements to the powerplant "system". The selection of cams for the 302 is fairly limited unless it is converted to mass air. I'm reasonably sure you have an increase in performance. The Flowmaster is an highly touted muffler as is the Magnaflow. Either would be a good choice. You may still think it's quiet due to the factory cat though. Glad to hear from a fellow Georgian. Enjoy your holiday.
It definately has good performance and , and . It it is fun to drive with the 5spd with Hurst shifter. It gets a lot of looks (see pics) even though it doesn't rumble. I just wish it did have the rumble. Istill get close to 17 mpg on trips but less around Cobb County..
Great looking Bronco. If you get a chance, take a look at the '96 I just fininshed for the son of one of my customers. It's on my gallery page. Great job on the airbox isolation, by the way.
