tran-case
It will not make the sound all the time. It mostly
does it in reverse going up hill. When the sound starts I stop the truck and put it in nuetral, then back in drive or reverse. It has not done it in 4 wheel drive yet, only 2 wheel. The truck is a

transfer case. It was my range fork worn down about an 1/8 . The magnet in the bottom of the case was
loaded with metal shavings. Everything else looks
new. The truck has 208000 miles on it so I can't
say much. The guys at the dealership like to of never fiqured out what a range fork is. This fork is what puts your truck in 4x4 low range. The fork was worn down just enough to let the annulus gear slide forward going down hill to slide up against the Planetary gear. Just think of it this way.Your going down the road at 65 mph and try to jerk the truck in 4-low. Talk about a bad sound. The men at the dealer said the fork has been changed to plastic. I'm not sure (the part is not in yet) but
I dont like going from steel to plastic. Maybe it is a good thing.
