My wife decided to drive my 98 F-150 4.6 manual on the interstate in second gear for several miles; I imagine she had the radio blaring. When she realized she was still on second she shifted into third at which something broke in a very painful way. The truck quit running immediatly
The local shop checked the oil dipstick on which no oil appeared and concluded the engine had siezed. However I drained the oil and measured how much oil there actually was and it was just under 4 quarts. The truck was due for an oil change but the oil did not seem exceptionally dirty however it did appear that it had lost some viscosity.
The engine will not turn over but I don't want to buy a new engine if it is possible the problem is only in the transmission, or worse, if I need both I would probably junk the truck. So, given the circumstances above can someone guess at what actually happened and what is broken.
You can put a socket on the crank pulley and try to turn it by hand. You might have to pull the plugs though to actually be able to turn it over by hand.
Check your clutch, similar thing happened to a friend of mine, and the clutch went bad, which meant when he pushed the clutch pedal to try to start it, the safety switch wasn't being activated.

Good luch
make certain to pull the coil wires BEFORE attempting this! Or, as said above pull the plugs.
