i have a problem with sticky lifters on the passenger side of my engine (87 f150, 302). i came across an ad in a 4x4 mag for www.worldcastings.com. i guess the specialize in cylinder heads. does anyone have any experience with them?
also, if i just bought some new heads (they offer a windsor jr. package for my engine), that should take care of the sticky lifter problem completely, right?(i'm just guessing)
if i got new heads, how complicated is the install? is this a do-it-yourselfer, or one of those take-it-to-the-mechanic deals?
anyway, what do you guys think? how have you guys fixed sticky lifters? also, what's a reputable company that sells heads? how much should i expect to pay?
The lifters are actually located in the valley under your intake, not in your heads like the over head cam type engines. You don't have to remove your heads to get to them. Now, you should be able to replace your heads yourself if you have a good manual that shows you how and that gives you the torque specs AND if you have the tools. If I can do it, anyone can. But I usually take about 3 times longer than a normal person, because I have to read, look, understand, and then act and sometimes it takes a big 2X4 before I understand what the manual is trying to tell me plus about 3 trips to Sears to buy the right tool and about 2 more posts to this board to ask the "dumb" type questions that I have. These guys are awesome!!!
Nissanjon ,
Ive seen Marvel Mystery Oil fix them if they havent gone beyond replacing . It wont hurt anything to run a quart of it in the engine and see what happens . You can buy it just about any parts place , Wal Market etc .
