Cataletic ? Converter
Just got an '81 F150, Shortbed, 302, 3spd w/OD. Unfortunately, It has to go through E check here in Ohio. So I am in the middle of rebuilding the 302. It does not have a cataletic converter on it and I need to know if it was supposed to or not. The Y pipe looks to be fairly new so one may have been removed (oh my)

most likely it was removed. I'm sure it was supposed to have one, as only trucks above 8600GVWR came without cats in the early 80's. my 85 in fact has two stock catalytic converters, one for cooler conditions on startup, and the other which works when the exhaust system warms up. good luck.

Yeah, you should have a fairly large cat right after the cross over and before the muffler. You should also have an air pump on the engine and a carbon can under the hood that filters gas fumes from the gas tank.
