Dana 60 question

I've got a balljoint front 60 out of a 1997 F-350 in my 1996 F-250. Its puking gear oil around the axle shaft on the passenger side, how big of a chore is it to replace the seals? Perhaps a quick walk through

I think Edward did that on his Dana60 a little while back after the St. Helens trip, might wanna ask him.

The biggest challenge will be getting the spindle off of the knuckle, unless of course you have one of those slick Snap On slide hammers that fit right on the spindle. Other than that, all you need is a hub nut socket aside from basic handtools. Not counting the spindle fiasco, it should only take about an hour.

i took my 60 apart before when we did ball joints, the spindle is held on by 5 bolts.

If its leaking gear oil, you'll have to replace the Inner axle tube seal from inside the differential. You would have to remove both axle shafts and Carrier to replace these. Even then, I read somewhere that you need some kind of tool to set the new seal in place without damaging it. Its not an easy job.

Nostalgia On Wheels or "Nowparts" on Ebay sells genuine Spicer parts for the Dana 60. I just bought some U-joints and spindle bearing/seals from him. He sells the inner axle seals as well. Ebay Item# 7976809522
