Mercon SP
I am looking for Motorcraft Mercon SP. One Ford Dealer here in St. Louis is wanting 4.62/qt. Most of the auto parts stores haven't heard of Mercon SP when ask them for it. Is this a dealer only item.

I just took my truck in to B&M Racing on Thursday morning so they could test fit a finned aluminum pan on the TorqShift. They had to get Mercon SP from the local Ford Dealer and that dealer actually had to get a few cases from another dealer outside of L.A.
Guess it's not necessarily a 'common' stock item yet. I don't believe any aftermarket companies make the same fluid at this time.

hah, when i went to buy some back in my hometown the ford dealership never even heard of it before - and then couldnt believe the price of it either. needless to say they never had any in stock and it had to be ordered.

right now it seems to be a ford only item. i to have been though the same hassle as i have access to a very well known international trans builders shop and his brains . we where going to drop the pan and see if we could turn up the line pressure a little bit. no one had the oil only our local ford dealer at 3.75 a qt. wholesale price.

I called every auto parts store in town, most never even heard of the stuff. Had to go to the dealer. Got 8 quarts, $4.60 something/quart. Took 7 1/2 after draining and changing the spin on filter. Looks like FoMoCo has a monopoly on the stuff. My truck was built 01-03-03, and nobody makes the tranny fluid yet? There must be a million of the torque shift trannys out there now. Go figure.
