---I received a postcard from ford stating that I must bring my f-350 truck in for a flash.......I have a fairly early 03......picked up on June 27 03......I have had zero problems with this bad boy....
---Everytime I take the truck in for periodical maintenance the rep says "if it ain't broken don't mess with it"....I agree....but, the flash always pops up on his screen stating the truck still needs it.....the truck has 32k on it......
---I don't want to do this, the truck runs like a champ.....absolutley not 1 problem since day 1......but, to avoid voiding any warranty issues I think I'm going to be forced to do this....
I have to say i have heard mix emotions about the flashing and yours is a year older then my 04 but i have more miles. I just passed 36k yesturday. I got the new flash last week and i have to tell you I LOVE IT. MAYBE i like it so much due to other reasons. I had a mpg issue i went in thinking the new flash would correct it. Ends up i had a bad EGR. Replaced EGR and got the new flash.. I drive 80 or so miles a day all high way @ 75mph and with no lift and 33's i saw 485mi when i filled up this morning. I always pump in between 29 and 30gal...
Kapnkavman, I would not flash the vehicle if it performs ok. No need to. Why gamble.
Then there are rumors about a recall for these trucks coming out sometime this summer. I will wait to have that performed if the recall does surface until after most reports of other trucks having the recall done are fairly positive.
kapnkavman...I didn't think it was a warranty issue with you CA kids. I thought the state was requiring the flash for CA emissions compliance. No flash, no registration renewal.
At least that's what I think I read, here at FTE, a few months back.
DON'T DO IT!!!!! Move to Nevada or something. No matter what the flash does, you can bet it won't improve anything, so that only leaves what? Yep, mileage sucks, acceleration sucks, and you get to buy more high $$$$ diesel out there. Most of us with 03's would love to have ours back to the original flash. Mine got better with the Dec. flash, but not as good as the original, especially in fuel mileage. I've never been able to get 18mpg. avg again, unless running straight highway. I could get almost 20 before the flashes, and it was considerably quieter before they eliminated the PI. But, I too read that the Republic of CA is going to mandate the flash in order for you to keep the truck. Or, just get a chip, CHP cars are dogs

I just recieved a letter from the CA Air Resource Board requiring me to have all of my semi's with engine build dates between 1993-1998 taken in to have a "Low NOx software upgrade" installed. They don't mention registration probelems if I don't, but they do mention fines. Here is a link to the webpage they give on the notice. I haven't looked at it, and I think it's mostly for heavy duty trucks, but it might lead to the issue involving the 6.0's. www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/hdsoftware/hdsoftware.htm
