My new truck finaly arrived! F350 6.0 lariat 6 speed long bed supercab dark shadow grey. What an amazing rig. Now I know what you all have been raving about. I ordered it mid november and picked her up 9 days ago. Yes thats 6 months of reading these forums learning about her. Now it's break-in time and I just can't wait to unleash her to feal what she really has. I read the break-in post but I was wondering how high of rpms should I go to? I've waited this long so I don't want to mess her up. I now have 500 miles on her. I would like to say FTE is a great site!
Congrats on the new truck Most folks say to go easy on it the first 1,000 miles or so...
I have 53,000 miles on my 6.0 and it runs better than the day I bought it new-
Your manual should list key recommended break-in information and procedures. One of the items was to fluctuate your speed and rpm's. I guess that means no cruise control for a while. I think the recommeded break-in miles was 1000, if I remember correctly. It might actually have been 500. I would say it would be a good idea to change the oil soon too as you would want to get the production goop and any break-in metal out of the system before too long.
Congrats on your new truck.
Thanks guys for your advise. Since I have the 6 speed manual trans fluctuating the speed and rpms are very easy to do. I will have the oil changed around 1000 miles. So at that time I can hook up the horse trailer and take her for a ride.
I believe that is what they say but I waited for a few thou before hookin up my trailor. But that's just me. I think that the manual also specifies the mileage before towing as well. Another idea is if you feel good about the mechanics at the dealer that you plan on getting your warranty service performed at, you can call them and ask what they recommend as they are the ones you will be explaining what you have done to the truck if it ever needs warranty work. That way, all is in the up and up with them, ie. hey you guys told me it was okay to.........
You probably will experience some cramping in the cheeks due to the 6.0 grin. I found beer to help with this discomfort, of course when not planning to drive for a while. really, have fun with your new ride. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do mine.
