That is correct. The old 4V 5.4L is history. Now they've upped the tranny instead of the engine.
I had a 2001 Navigator with the 32 valve Intech V8. That engine had a FANTASTIC amount of low range torque, peaked at a mere 2750 RPM.
In the next year or so, I might be looking at a new vehicle. Is there any of you out there who has had the chance to drive both the 5.4 Intech 32 valve and the new Triton 3 valve 5.4 V8's?
If so, what are your thoughts? How do these two engines compare? I know that the new 3 valve 5.4 has its peak torque at a higher RPM, I think some 3700 RPM...
Don't new Navigators have air suspension on all four corners as standard equipment? Isn't there a big difference in the ride quality? Expeditions have it as an expensive option.

the 32 valve engines are no longer made both use the same 3v triton engine

Perhaps, but have you considered the $15K price difference between the two? That's one helluva option group.
I will be buying a new 2005 Eddie Bauer Expy today(as long as the deal we agreed to on the phone is the same when I get to the dealership). My wife and I have been researching and test driving Expys and one Navigator.
While we were on a Ford lot they had 3 used Navs. One had 18,000 miles on it and looked pretty nice. I was very dissapointed with the way the interior finish held up on the Nav we test drove with only 18,000 miles on it. The console was all scratched up and the silver finish was worn away in many spots, exposing the plastic underneath. On top of that there were at least 3 unidentified noises and rattles that freaked me out. I'll pass.
I drove a 2003 Navigator with 34,000 miles on it. Very nice, reasonably good condition. But the interior seemed worn out. The left side of the driver's seat was a little broken down, as if somebody never used the running boards to get in and out. The "silver" paint on the plastic had worn off in a lot of places, there were plenty of scratches on it. And there were a LOT of rattles--driver's door, somewhere in the back, the sunroof.
The power lift gate seemed a little too slow to suit me. I don't want to stand there waiting on it in the rain. Power running boards looked a little dangerous. I can see somebody standing too close and getting whacked in the shins. The difference between a new Navigator and a new Expedition is something like $12,000, and I can't find the difference anywhere. That Lincoln Star logo is nice, but no way is it worth it.
I ended up buying a brand new 2005 Expedition Limited in cashmere from my buddy at the Ford dealership. Massive discounts. I've never owned a vehicle this big, but I think I can learn to love everything except the pitiful mpg. But I'm going to work on that.
Can anyone tell me if the electronic hatch opening system is adaptable to an EB EXP o5?
Are the electronic lifts self contained ? What I mean does the lift have the motor in it and are there 2 or just one?
thanks
I dunno about that, but the strap thing that hangs down is the activation switch for closing it on a Navigator. Just give it a tug and get out of the way. You'd have to wire that in somehow.
