No spark

I have no spark at the plugs. I used a screwdriver to open the points and have spark there and can hear spark at the coil too. This is a 54 F-100 6 cyl. What should i be doig next?

welcome to FTE,
Well this might sound dumb, but is your rotor in place? and possibly try new condenser.
I'm sure there will be more info to follow.
Good Luck
Mike

PM - You've got to figure that the problem is between the points and the plugs. While it is not likely that the wires all went bad at the same time (you did check spark to more than one plug, right?), My guess is that it is in the cap. Either too much gap between the rotor and the cap, or the cap itself is toast.

How big a spark do you get at the points?

I know these electrical things are frustrating. You just have to take the time you need to rule each element in or out of the problem. I would just start replacing each item. New condensor, points, rotor, cap, etc. Many of us can tell stories of how we had to go thru something one piece at a time to find where the break was. That's how I wound up with so many spare "good" parts. They weren't the problem.

Have someone turn the motor over and see if the points fire that way.they may fire when shorted across but not when motor turned.if not check the gap on the points.
GOOD LUCK

Is this a project truck you're just now cranking or what happened just prior to the "no spark" condition?

Check the screw that goes through the distributor, the one that the primary lead from the coil hooks to. On the inside of the distributor there is a piece of plastic that insulates the wire connection from shorting againist the housing. If it's cracked like mine was there will be no power to the points.
