Need some advice
I have a 87 Ford Ranger 2.3 5 speed. I put a rebuilt engine in a few years (30K miles) ago and it has a pretty serious leak between the first two bolts on the drivers side of the oil pan. I can feel gasket potruding all around the pan except between these two bolts. I'm going to try and put in a new gasket this weekend and was hoping you all could give me some advice and/or tips on this job. Obviously I did something wrong the last time I installed the oil pan and gasket because it shouldn't be leaking already. It was a small drip for the last 10k miles or so but lately has become a stream. I tried tightening the bolts a little and it helped for a while but now the leak is back with a vengeance.

Don't over tighten the bolts, I not sure what they should be set (look in your book) at, but most leaks are because of over tightening the bolts. Also when you have the pan off look for distortion on the pan around the bolt holes, again by over tightening. Use a good grade of gasket and you should be good to go. Someone will be along with some more info...good luck.
