I purchased a 1988 F-150 with a 302 V8. I changed the oil and filter, then added 6 quarts of oil as listed in the capacity section of the manual. After I ran the engine and then rechecked the oil, it was well below the "add" mark. Could the dipstick be too short? Could the oil-pan have a larger capacity? I'm not sure if the dipstick is original equipment. It measures 30.75 inches from the tip to where the stick connects to the handle. Any advice would be appreciated.
Rob ,
If you checked the oil level as soon as you shut the engine off , some oil is still going to be in the upper part of the engine . Best way to ensure the proper level is to check it parked on a level surface and first thing in the morning . Im sure the 6 qt refill was sufficient .
