On my 99 PSD I have noticed the tiniest increase/ decrease in flutter of the RPM's while idling in the parking lot. They are so minute that it is really hard to even see a change on the tach needle barly moves. Is this something that is usual for a small amount of fluxuation in RPM's that I have just never noticed before or AM I LOOSING MY SANITY AND BEING PARANOID?
If it makes a difference, it is about 70 degrees, parked in the sun, sitting for 8 hours without being started. 4500 miles on the oil change. New airfilter 7000 miles ago.
I have the artic package on my 99 which is a box located under the cup holder mounted under the dash. The box is a digital tach among other things like idle hold and charge protect. I watch that one more than the tach on the dash because it is a lot more accurate and easier to read. It has always fluctuated between 20-50 rpms depending on what's kicking on and off or cycling on and off. If you hook up a Predator tuner and run real time, you can watch all kinds of things fluctuating while its idling. You're probably ok.
i have noticed the exactly same thing on my '97as your describe. i don't think it is a problem. i'm not a mechanic but i hve been around a lot of diesel's in the fire dept.. i havn't heard one yet that didn't lope once in a while.
