Im gonna put a new smog pump in for my 85 f150 4wd. The old one doesnt have a pulley and there is no hose connecting it to anywhere. Where does the hose go to? Does it go to the charcoal canister box? Any help is much appreciated.
you dont need the smog pump, at least in nc. my smog pump/alternater bracket was broke to where the smog pump couldnt be bolted on. i searched my bum off for a new mount but couldnt find one. talked to the guy at the ford place and he said that since it was a discontinued part(ford stopped making them in 1997) that i could get a waiver from the dmv and they would exempt it. Now all you have to do is "break" the bracket(try overtighting the top most joint for the smog pump,or use a angle grinder, then get the exemption). Its really good for recovering those lost horses that the pumps been robbing for years. plus, it will really **** off the inspection guys when you whip out the waiver.
The best reason I think to not hook back up your smog pump is if it has been not working for sometime there maybe carbon build-up in the tubes and heads and hooking up a new pump might break off some carbon that has built up and lodge in a valve or worse yet damage a piston. Just food for thought.
