Muffler

Seems like an awful lot of people are removing thier mufflers. I heard one the other day and it didn't sound too bad, kinda throaty, and the turbo was really singing.
What is the flutter I have seen people talking about? Should I remove muffler or not?

Flutter is the noise made as the exhaust side of the turbo cuts through the exhaust gasses. I left my muffler in place (it's not stock but an aftermarket from Warpspeed), but running without one sounds pretty good to me.

I have the Walker BTM, gives a nice rumble. I ran it with out the muffler and it was ok but I prefered the sound with the BTM.

straight pipe is the only way to go...sound wise and hp wise...muffler gives too much backpressure

actually a stock muffler or an OBS should be a straight through design, with the lil glass pack cups on the inside, said to kill flutter and keep a nice tone, but i havent tried it yet, the stacks kill enough flutter.

the "cat" is what kills most of your sound, and is the most back pressure, on the OBS truck only.

On '99+ PSD 7.3, the muffler is a huge, reverse-flow design that contributes greatly to backpressure.

i got a stinger plus from banks, they told me to use the muffler or just to cut it out completely. just for sound benefits. but they said it out flows or at least flows the same as an aftermarket on the OBS. SD is very resrictive i am told. took the cat out and installed a 4" DP on buddies 04 SD 6.0. very responsive and has alot of turbo whisle...even @ idle.

Yes, it's internal pipe size is something like 2 inches only. I removed mine and installed a BTM.

There are none of you get a Walker BTM. It's full 3.5" straight through muffler that looks like a fat bazooka. No reduction of inside diameter and you get a civilized sound that the better half will tolorate while riding in your truck.

What does the Walker BTM do? Does it make it as quiet as the stock muffler without the back pressure?

You can hear the turbo more and the flutter plus it gives a nice deeper tone, it is louder than the stock muffler, but not by much.

I vote for the Walker BTM also. I did it and love it. Sounds great, but not loud.
