Gas mileage?

Yes the 1st 1/4 tank is deceiving. On a tank I usually am around the 250 mile mark when I fill up but I am always in the mid teens for number of gallons needed and the gas guage is between 1/4 and 1/2 tank. Tank is 25 gallons per my manual.

Is there anything you can do so that the gas guage needle matches up with the amount of fuel you have used or need?

yeah, I think just about every car does that... I usually say if its at 100 for the first 1/4 ill probably get 70% of that throughout the rest

this will make all of you feel good, im probably lucky if im gettin 8-10, feel better? i know i dont. lol, i'll have to get a 4 cylinder car too, to improve my average gas mileage. btw this is a 1987 f-250 4x4 with a carburated 460.

Usually get around 300 miles every fillups. When the fuel indicator gets to below 1/8, I usually stop for refuel that's usually at 280-300 mark. If I get over 310+ then I'm beaming.

What size tank do you have?
