Question getting a 44 code

Hey guys I recently tuned my truck up (88 w 302) and I had been getting a 44 code. I replaced the O2 sensor and reset the codes and I am still getting the code. I haven't tested the wires to the sensor yet (I've been pretty sick the last few weeks). I'm thinking of heading down to San Diego this weekend for a bachelor party but I'm getting about 9 mpg. That will be an expensive trip for me. I was hoping there might be some ideas out there.

Thanks

Mike

Code 44 indicates a non-functioning Thermactor system. Check your smog pump, air injection hoses and the check valves connected to them. Double check the vacuum lines AND hoses running to/through the diverter valve as well. On the outisde chance that all is well with these components, the TAB and TAD solenoids are the "last resort" problem children. Check the wiring to them and finally check that they are both functioning properly. (The process for checking them is rather tedious so I would recommend checking all the other things first). The EGR should have no bearing on the functionality of this system.

Opps it was actually 41

Hey guys I was just looking through my notes and it turns out it was a 41 not a 44. I'm not sure if that was just a type o or I'm losing it. Being that I'm not even 30 yet I hope I'm not losing it, although I am mostly grey at this point.

Thanks

Code 41 is a lower-than-normal voltage response from the O2 sensor during the last 40 operations of the engine. Most likely a dead O2 sensor.
