Shelby interprises is going to make a monster FE 526 cubes 4.375" bore what they are doing is completely boring out the block the sleeves they are using are 4.625" .002" for coolant. It has 6 bolt mains ribs in the lifter valley nad can safely handle 1,500 horses. I want one
Oh, what crank are they going to use to get 526"? Nearest I can figure, 4.375" bore and 4.375" stroke = 526.2"
Exactamundo!
When I built my Shelby I had to choose between a 4.25 crank, and a 4.375. I went the 4.25 route for 511ci because I was concerned about rod length and angle. If you bore out a Shelby big bore block to it's maximum of 4.44 with a 4.25 crank you get 526 also. Shelby says you can go to a 4.5 crank in their block. 4.44 bore with 4.5 crank = 557ci.
That sounds awesome. I would love to have a 526+ FE engine. I wonder how it would compete with a 460 series engine at the same cubes?
Same stroke same bore, basically same HP and TQ...But with that said.. It would be hard to find an Aftermarket head for the FE that will flow as well as the aftermarket 385 series....Some of the EX514 ported haeds I have seen on the flow bench will flow 500cfm on Intake and well over 300++ on the Exhaust side!!
But if you just went part for part....I think they would be very close.....
The name of the game is the Avalibilty of Hi-Po aftermarket parts...
Thats why you see so mant Hotrod Chebby 350's out there...the parts are a dime a dozen...and there's plenty to choose from... JMHO..
Hey Scouder, welcome back! How's the buddies 390 coming along? Any time to make progress on the monster?

Thanks Mike. I've been occupied with other things since the weather broke, and haven't done anything on either project. I've been lurking here almost every day though.
I just talked to the kid with the 447, and he is coming over Sunday to get started on the short block. He has been porting his manifold to match the heads, and it's taken him longer than he thought.
This same kid is a welder, so I'm going to have him bring his TIG over to the house one of these days so he can weld my cage. Then it's just a matter of tearing into the gears and cam. It's getting harder and harder to walk by those brand new parts sitting in the garage.
WOW that is cool 526+ from an FE how much. Do you think the 514 will be able to compete.
It all comes down to components. But yes. There are HP parts out there that would make a 514 outrun the most well-built 526 FE. If you mean the crate 514, then no, a 526 FE with good components is going to come out on top by a wide margin.
ford racing has a 514 crate engine. my buddy has put one, mated to a big shaft toploader, in his cobra kit car. ill let you guys know how fun it is when i get to ride in it (possibly drive it!)

Yep Scoots right on that.....the Highest HP rated 514 crate engine with the Mechanical Cam is rated at 600Hp by ford...but thats conservative..I have seen actual dyno tests at 625 to 630hp coming from that set-up...
And I think a well build with after market parts on a 526 would probably bring in the range of 750 to 775hp on a Single carb...My guess anyway?
