Unhappy power door locks

i have a 2001 f-150 lariat 4x4 and the door locks are acting strange. It almost acts like if i have a low battery but everything else works fine, when i hit the lock button the doors lock but when i hit the unlock button they are a little weaker to unlock, then if i hit the lock button again they will lock but even slower then unlock again even slower, if i do this (lock then unlock) several times it gets weaker and weaker until it just stops working, then i can let it sit a little while and it starts working again for a little while, but the power windows and lights work fine, seems like a low battery would do this to everything.

please help

thanks in advance,

triton

I don't know if Ford still uses them, but the older door locks were actually a little motor and ran back and forth. There may be something wrong with the lock mechanisms themselves.

The only thing I would try is reading the voltage going to the lock actuator while you are flipping them on and off, to verify they are not starving for voltage.

I know on the Superduty body styles, the 99 to 01 suffered from some pretty poor lock actuators, I have replaced a coule of mine already, they where doing the exact thing you are describing. If everything else checks out okay, you will probably need a new lock mechanism. When I got mine it was around 50 bucks.
