I desperately need a rear prop shaft. It is making clacking sounds now at times and I am assuming that the bearings in the shaft are the source of the sound(it is a cv driveshaft). But at the same time I think it may be the transfer case making the sound. Could someone point me in the right direction to finding a rear prop? I need a cardan style. Also Im looking for a engine rebuild kit or long block...any ideas and help are greatly appreciated!
You need to pull the driveshaft and take the cv joints apart and inspect them to see what has failed. You should be able to buy replacement guts for the cv joint or an entire new cv joint from an auto parts store like Auto Zone.
FYI...I have lifted my B2 w/ a 4" supension lift and 3" body lift.(It's 90 2.9L btw) If I replace the bearings in the original shaft will it be able handle moderate off road usage or should I check into getting another type of shaft?
Please let me know soonest!
Thanks!
the reason you need a new driveshaft is your lift!!!
the stock cv-type can't hold up to the angle and will bend or start to clack or just come right off. the cardan type shaft is great for when you lift your b2 or ranger
the angle has no effect since your using u-joints.
i have a double cardan shaft works great. single cardan's are cheaper around 200-600 new or custom made. i have a reconditioned single cardan shaft sitting in my garage.
if anyone needs it it's going for cheap.
I replaced my CV drive shaft with one off of an 1985 and I have no problems. I managed to break my CV one 4 times. Also I have one that has been upgraded, but it is for an automatic so I need to know if you have a Auto or a standard
Sorry I haven't gotten back to you guys!
My B2 is an auto and if you have any pics of the shafts you all are talking about please email them to me at armybronco2@yahoo.com. I will get back here tonight for sure! REALLY need a driveshaft people!
