Unhappy Starter teeth sheared off

Dont know if this is the right place to post this. 86 f250 7.5l automatic c-6
Went out the other day to start the truck. Loud pop rattle engine started.
I killed it and tried it again. A little different this time without the loud pop but an awfull loud rattle. Pulled the starter off today and one of the teeth on the gear is completely sheared off. I looked at the flywheel ring gear and it looks pretty good, a little bit of chipping on the leading edge where the starter engages but mostly ok. Now my question
1. Can I replace just the gear on the starter? Or do I have to rebuild or purchase another? If I can replace, who carries it? what do I call it, and how hard is it to do?

You can replace just the gear. Napa probably has it. It's called the starter bendix. Take your starter apart before you do this, and check the bushings and the brushes. If they look pretty worn, you will be ahead to get another starter.
