Recently bought an '02 F-150. Only came with one key. I want an extra one and the previous owner cannot find his extra. I know this has a coded key, so I went to the local dealer. They wanted $25 for the key, which seems reasonable, and $125 to program it to the vehicle. Does that sound right, or does that sound over priced? Or, is there another option that would be cheaper?
The first dealer I called when I wanted a 2nd key quoted me $115 for the key and programming. The 2nd dealer quoted e $61.
Why the huge difference? Dunno. IMO $61 for a key is outrageous, but better than 115.
Yeah, and better than $150 as well! I had no idea that these keys costed soo much
I take that back. I recently took my truck into the dealer to have it scanned with their WDS Scantool. One dealer wanted $175 and the other wanted $82.50. So go figure?
Good Luck and let us know how it turns out as we can keep this info for the future.
Key duplication are expensive. I had to cough up $120 for second set of key and remote for my 02 Supercrew done by Ford dealer service back in March. Then I bought third set of key/remote via ebay for $40.
All of this is why I went to Ebay and bought TWO keys for my SCrew when I bought it. I had two keys from factory and made up two more for $25. But you need two keys to do it.
I am new to the 97-2004 trucks (just bought a 2000 F150 5.4L SCab), however, in the owner's manual, it lists the procedure to program the keys. Perhaps they changed the procedure in the 2001+ trucks, but check it out first.
