15x6 with a 31x10.5-15.. is it ok?

question: will i be ok with a 10.5 wide tire on a 6 inch wide stock f150 rim? just wondering.. i've got a set of 15 inch rims with new 31x10.5's on 'em and want to go back to stockers which i have, and was hoping i dont have to lay down money for new tires. if it's not adviseable, anyone want a set of 31x10.5-15's on some 15x10 i believe "hole" rims?

Dont worry about beads and crap man. Ive ran 31x10.50's on my lifted 79 f150 for the winter and into this season on a 5.5" wide steel wheel. Tire wear is a little bit odd, but the ol girl has caught air, done some rock crawling on the river bank, no problems what so ever. They do look much more sexy on a 8" wide wheel, but who cares

Yeah, I have had them on both 6 and 8" rims. The 8s look better, but the 6s are fine. They just look "squished" 10" wide rims with 10.50 tires are a little stretched, but I suppose it can be done.

i believe i have 10 inch wide ones on the truck now.. it makes the tires not look so right. i think the 6 inchers should fit my "look" perfect.

thanks again, guys. you really saved me some money.

...great subject.

Can anyone recommend a few tire sizes on that 6" rim that's wider than the factory 235 75R 15, but less wide (unsquished) than a 31 x 10.5 x 15 ? ...something in between?

FWIW every tire mfg I know of lists the min/max rim width for every tire they sell.

If you're close it's probably not an issue unless you have a tire failure that causes an accident and someone decides to sue you, or you file a claim with your insurance. Then your insurance company may tell you to get lost or, at best, cover you then cancel your policy.
