Question 2001 compatible with 1998?

I was at a salvage yard friday, and i found a 2001 3.0 motor out of a 2wd ranger. I have a 1998 4wd ranger with a 3.0 and was wondering if the motors would be compatible and if not how much would have to be changed? The 2001 is from an auto tranny and I have the 5-speed. Anyone have any advice?

I'm no expert, but I think a 3.0 vulcan is a 3.0 vulcan, be it different years, or in different vehicles. That said, the 2001 probably has a different computer (updated) than the '98. If I got the motor, I would try to get the computer and harness too.

An '01 will pretty much drop right in, it should be very similar. Keep in mind though that a lot of '01 vulcans are flex fuel, don't know whether or not your '98 is. If one Ranger is a FFV and one isn't, then you will need to keep the original fuel injectors from your '98.
