My friend's '88 E350 351W w/C6 (I'm assuming, because no O/D), he lost the serpentine belt on the highway and got towed 50 miles to his brother's house.
One of the tranny lines was leaking because the belt hit it (the line was rotted), but it didn't seem to loose much fluid. Although it could have been leaking before the belt went...
Anyway, on the 50 mile tow, they towed it with the rear wheels on the ground. Not a good thing.
Since then, he has reverse, no drive, no 2nd, and in 1st, it goes into REVERSE. In 2nd, it seems to put a load on the motor, but no movement - I'm assuming it's stuck in reverse AND 2nd at the same time.
Fluid level is fine.
Is this something simple like a stuck valve, or is it one of the clutches welded itself together from the tow?
I know a lot about manuals, but not what happens with an auto when it's sick.
Either way, it's going to a tranny shop, but was curious if this is a hard-part problem or valve-body related.
Towing an automatic transmission with the rear wheels down just about guarantees that the transmission is destroyed. I have seen an E4OD that actually melted the rear of the case when towed only 10-15 miles. If it was towed by a professional tow company go back to them, their insurance should cover repairs.
