yeah, so there are alot of flies in my basement and its getting really annoying. these suckers are big! they are the size of horse flies but i havent been bitten yet. it doesnt seem like they land on people and i think they're really really stupid.
you know how normally flies are really fast a jump out of the way when you try to kill them? well these ones dont. ive stepped on one, and i killed one with a folded up piece of paper. plus i can hit them out of mid air. i think there is something wrong with these stupid things!
but anyways, does anybody have any ideas or tips on how to get rid of these things? i saw a long time ago people hanging bags of water up and that supposedly made them go away. but im not real sure on that one. any help would be great! thanks
The bags of water doesn't make them go away. It keeps them from coming in. The wasp is the natural enemy of flies, and the bags of water, in a fly's eyes, look like wasp nests so they stay away. We have the bags of water up (on the outside of the door frame) and have no fly problems, but I know flies are out and about. Best thing to do would be the water bag trick to the outside of your doors around the house, and if you open windows without screens, around those as well. Then see if there are other places for them to come in at, and then wait it out. They don't live long.
I'd have to second the "bag of water trick" idea. Last year I hung a couple up in my garage near the door and window and it really works. It doesn't keep every fly out but sure cuts down on their numbers.
Well first you have to get the body out of the basement
See if you can find out what is attracting them then get rid of it. We had a fly problem under our house once due to a raccoon or something getting under there and dying. The flies were all over it
Can someone tellme about the bags of water? Sounds like a neat trick! How big do they have to be, how many to hang, etc. Thanks
They have these bags that you put a liquid in it and it attracts the flies into the bag and they drown, put one on the back porch and within a week it was ful of flies, one other note do not get the liquid on your hand because it smells and the smell does not wash off easy. her is the product I found at lowes.com
it is called Rescue®
Disposable Fly Trap
Ya know, I bought one of those real sticky paper things that come in a circular container, then you pull the string on the bottom and it un-rolls to about 2 feet long and only about 2 inces wide, looks like a big spring hanging. For two day's not a single dang fly landed on this thing. So I killed a fly a put it on it, the others saw him there for so long, thinking he was eating or something. The next day the dang thing was covered in fly's.

I just used a 1 gallon zip-loc bag filled about 1/2-3/4 full of water. Get as much air out before you seal it up. Then gather the top together and wrap one end of a 12-14 gage copper wire around it. Hang the other end of the wire from a nail or hook in the ceiling so that the bag is about 7 foot or so above the floor. Hang it near a door or window for best results.
