All you that have strait pipes, just wanted to know what you did? Did you use the muffler delete pipe or add your own and keep the stock routing. Did you cut the muff off and use a durndown? It would seem so easy to just cut off the muffler and put a 90 on 'er. (or 45)
What about the cat (if you had one) how did you get rid of that? Do they have a cat delete pipe?
These questions are for the 02. Not working on the 94 anymore.
when we did my buddies '02 we used a 45* when the inlet of the muffler was and some pipe going to the over axle piece, it wasn't a perfect fit but we did it, best bet would be to take the entire exhaust off the truck muffler included, and fab up something, we did it in the truck big, PITA.
welded a piece of straight in, until I got my 4-inch. If you can pony up the cash just replace it with 4-inch and delete the muffler. It will pay in the long run.
Well, that is the problem. I dont have the cash right now or for awile, there are other things that need to be done first. So thats why I'm thinking of doing it this way for now.
The turn down where the muffler would work, but your axle and underside of box will get FULL of soot, and the heat could be an issue on the brake lines going to the passenger wheel.
Why not just unbolt it at the adapter and have a muffler shop use a straight 3.5 piece and reconfigure the adapter so it could be reused. Then run straight back from there ?
Has anyone unbolted at the adapter ?? How hard can it be ?
Just off the topic a bit. Do you guys like the sound your getting from your trucks. Ah maybe the most important question. Some sure sound different then others. One kid who had a powerstroke diesel one day was coming down the street. Thuing sounded like a mack truck. Awesome. If I see him Ill have to look at his system. How about you guys. Are you happy with the sound. Thanks.

Use lots of penatrating oil for a week or so before you try it....my studs snapped off and the damned things are welded in and just about impossible to drill.....( I wound up buying a flowmaster downpipe)
I used a long piece of angle iron and a big hammer and busted all the honeycomb out of my cat so it would "appear" to have one.....I got a piece of 3 1/2 pipe and welded it in place of the muffler.....If I were to do it again, I wouldn't bother deleting the muffler....Mine was a straight through design and I don't see how you would get any gains by loosing it...
as for the sound, I have a flow-through muffler, it is as quiet as a baffled muffler, I like my engine as quiet as I can so I can actually listen to the radio or a conversation and don't scare away all the wildlife. Besides, it is more neighbour friendly
This is my custom 4" exhaust. When you hit the throttle, a big ol puff of black smoke shoots out onto the ground, then the mud flaps
swirl the black smoke.....kinda like down draft from a helicopter. It's awesome! Not to mention the sound. I have just under $400.00 total from the cat delete back and no muffler. I liked the idea of the stinger (6") coming out over the center of the rear axle, it's different and I don't get soot all over my tires and wheels, it just hits the guy behind me...
on my 95 i cut off the exhaust just after the bolt together joint came off that with a 3.5 to 4 inch adapter to about 4 foot of 4inch pipe then a 45 degree then a 4 to 5 inch adapter and then about 2 foot of 5 inch chrome with a slash cut that parrallels the side of the truck. it looks awesome and sounds even better. my neighbors may not like it but i don't like their music that i can hear in my house not to mention their garbage that ends up in my yard. will try to post some pics of it tomorrow.
I just had a local muffler shop cut of the muffler and weld a 4" piece in as well. But that had to go do to state inspection. St. Louis county requires a muffler on all vehicles. Now a 4" turbo back is in its place. The sound difference between a straight pipe and the 4" is not noticable. Love it either way. One question and I don't know if this has been asked before but my truck never had a cat. What year trucks do? I didn't think diesels needed them. I'm just curious.
