I have a 96 long bed, 302. My gas guage read absolutely empty, but when I filled it, it only took 15 and a half gallons. Is it possible I have a 16 gallon tank? Or are all 96 long beds 18 gallons? In which case my guage is off.
Does it read full after you filled it? Single or dual tanks; I think Ihave seen the rear behind the axle tank listed as 18 1/2 and the long bed side tank as 19. If your gauge reads that close I wouldn't worry about it; you dont want to run too low as it is not good for the fuel pump anyway.
I was really bored one day so I read my F150's bill of sale from end to end one day. In the very very fine print on page 4 paragraph 56, section 8.1....There was a line that said, "anyone that expects these crappy fuel level sending units to work accurately is smoking the wacky weed".
Ford sending units are junk, I am so ticked that they got away with putting such unreliable garbage in the trucks. I have had a new one sitting in my garage for one year, it looks so cheaply designed and built that I figure, WHAT IS THE USE???
I just researched about this, there is another thread around right now about the tank size. Do you have an E4OD 4x4, if so, there is a chance your front tank is 16.something gal. Even with the long bed. There is a note in my owners manual that says some 4x4's will require a smaller front tank, no explaination is given in the owners manual.

Mine is a single tank, 4x2. I just assumed that the was 18 after reading posts here. I always wondered why my low fuel light never came on even when I was past the E line on the guage.
are you serious about that line, or did you take the liberty to paraphrase? I hear about people throwing funny lines into legal documents sometimes. I'd like to see it if that's true. sounds amusing!
