XL Decor headlights

I have a 2005 F250 XL V8 and would like to upgrade to the "jewel effect" headlights that are included in the XL Decor Package. Anybody know if I can add these lights to my truck? Where could I get them? I would like to upgrade using fmc lights, not aftermarket. Thanks, John

You should to be able to add them. I've got a few buddies who've done the job. Just don't do a garbage job- jewel headlights and "standard" parking lights. Do them both at the sametime. I knew of somebody who did that and we're still making fun of him! I have a 99' F-250 PSD and I just got my jewel lamps off of e-bay last week. Probably install next weekend. I'm telling you, ebay is the way to go!

Thanks,

Headlamp Swap

From what I understand, the 99-04 jewel type lamps mount in the same holes as the sealed beam type. I'm sure that the 05's are similar, and that the headlamp mounting panel on an 05 is the same for either style of headlamp. Just unbolt the old ones and install the new ones. If you want to stay with original FOMOCO lamps, a local junkyard is probably the best place to get them--should be about 1/2 the price of new. I don't know how many 05's you'll find in junkyards yet. The only problem you might have is the electrical connectors--the sealed beam lamps and the halogen capsule lamps have different style connectors. You either will have to get new headlamp harnesses or splice new replacement connectors onto the original harness.

Thanks for the info. I will look at the wiring and see if I can get the harness from the jewel type with the headlights. Also, I agree, I would like to get the parking lights at the same time. I don't know much about what guys are doing with upgrading there headlight / park lights, but maybe I can find someone that has upgraded to non-OEM and willing to sell there lights.

Just looked at the headlight wiring harness. There appears to be a short adapter on the existing xl model I have that plugs in to the truck harness. If I am lucky, I will be able to remove the adapter and plug the existing truck harness directly to the jewel headlights. I still have not found any, looked on e-bay, internet search, etc. No luck. I am affraid to ask the dealer, the price may be excessive. Any suggestions? John.

I changed from XL to jewel effect on my 04 last month. Like you said I removed adapter and what was left plugged right into the new headlights.

i guess you didnt have the option of ordering your truck with the decor package huh. it amazes me at how cheap the option vs what its going to cost you now. I ordered my 05 with them.

Looks like the grille and all is the same for base xl and xl decor, so i imagine they will bolt in.

Not to steal the thread ... but whats different with the 05 H13/9008 light bulb? Silverstar doesnt make it yet?

Here's a link for the 9005ST, they had mentioned something about not making the 2008. Not sure if it met US and Canadian specs.
The 2005 is all you'd need anyway unless you went to HID. They have that link on the page too.

Just go to the link that comes up and select silverstar from the left panel.

Yes, I think it would have been cheeper to just get the decor package. I think the dealer cost is only $175. I bought the truck off the lot and the only thing it did not have was the decor lights and the upfitter switches. I ordered the wiring harness and switches to add the upfitter switches for about $60. Easy to install and a bargan for what you get. Not having any luck finding the decor lights to retrofit. Think the dealer will be to expensive, but who knows, maybe I should ask. I like the look of the decor lights better and thay look as if they would provide more light. Does anybody have any idea about the difference in the night driving with the decor lights vs the standard xl sealed beams? John

You can find comparisons at Sylvania. Hit the link in my earlier post and look on the left panel. Silverstar has it hands down unless you go HID. You MUST upgrade the harness though otherwise you won't get full power to them. Summit Racing has the harness for 40 bucks and I think Dieselsite or Blackclouddiesel sells the who shebang with bulbs for 80.

What are upfitter switches? Usage?

looks like they dont make a silverstar h13/9008, they only have the xtravision upgrade listed on said site. I really havent driven in a real dark road yet, but they are definatly an improvement over the older jewel lights with stock bulbs. i forgot to yank my silverstars out b4 trading in, but seeing as how i cant use them now, it doesnt matter. They do have silverstar parking lights and turn signals thought ... hehe.

Upfitter switches are 4 seperate switches marked aux 1, 2, 3 and 4. They are for anything you may want to use them for in the future. I have heard that some people use one for the fast idle or extra lights. The switches are mounted beside the intergrated brake controller. I have not connected eny of them yet, but may connect to additional lights in the future. I believe 2005 was the first year they were offered. John
