I have a 90 bronco with a 351. While it was in the shop for repair, they took it for a test drive and the oil pressure bottomed out, now the motor is junk. With dealing with the insurance company, they decided to replace my motor of 120k, with a used motor out of a bronco with 62k. My question is......what precautionary messures should I check on to assure that this vehicle runs correctly with the new motor. Will there be a problem with the electronics on the new replacement matching with the computer that's in my truck? I'm sure the shop that's doing the job for me is going to look into all this and take care of it, but I want to know everything I can to assure that this is all done right. I've been without my truck for a few weeks......I got a rental but a 98 blazer is no comparison to my baby.
Don,
It sounds like the replacement engine is probably a newer one than yours if anything is different your components can and probably will be used in the swap.As long as the same components your truck came with are used you wont have any problems. A block is a block the computer doesnt know any different. Id ask the shop to do a compression check and a leakdown test to check the condition of the engine.Id also have them change any gaskets that look qustionable before they drop it in. Also if they do change any gaskets you can find out if the engine has been maintaned properly if theres any sludge in the block. If I was doing it myself I think I would change valve cover Gaskets, rear main seal, oil pan gasket, timing chain and possibly water pump. Just to know im in good shape for the long haul.
Good luck
