4.10 3.73 gear ratios

I am sure that a 7.3 with 4.10's will tow better if not nore than one with 3.73's. The question is how much more can the 4.10's tow over the 3.73's. has anyone ever driven both and noticed a sizable difference or do they tow close to the same.

I run 02 4x2 DRW with 4.10 limited slip. Had no problems towing anything, buddy has 00 with 3.73 and has not had any problems towing usually goosenecks. Might want to ask Kwik he runs F550 with 4.88

Hahaha it'll pull the house down if I want to. But I pretty much stick to the right hand lane when on the freeway. 70mph = 2500rpm in 6th gear.

WRONG!

Budkole,
Depends on what you're going to be spending the most of your time doing. If towing is your main goal, go 4.11.
If you tow sometimes but want mpg most of the time, go 3.73.

Unless you're really going to max out the trucks towing limits a lot, 3.73 ought to do fine.

MPG is definitley a factor. my 4.10 gets me average 13.7 city 17 hwy and thats with fingers and toes.

My buddies with 3.73 gets 20+ (%$^#%@^)
You have to factor what the truck is going to do most of the time is it going to be a hauler or around town with not much towing.

i have the 3.73... no probs towing, but now that we have the 10k lb 5ver.. i don't push her that hard... i let her slow down a little on the hills so she can downshift without running 3400 rpm... she gears down and spools up.. rpms run around 2400-2600 going up steep hills.. but she's doin fine... i think doing it this was helps to keep the egt's down too... if i understand this right... you get higher egt's when you "lug" the motor... anyone have more to say about this...?

Reason i was aking is because I recently bought a used f350 drw cc PSD and my milage pretty much sucks compared to other psd's i have seen. I got up under it and noticed that i have 4.10's (checked the rear differential tag) 4L10. There aint no way im gettin 20 mpg like others claim, also have a n excursion with 4.30's (v10) that drinks like a fish but can tow like a monster. Is a PSD rig with 4.10's rated to tow more than the with 3.73's?

According to the book it is.
Do you tow massive weights LOT, you're certainly paying for the privilege.
Don't mean anything negative by that, if you need a locomotive, that's what you've got.
If it's for occasional towing, do your wallet a favor and shop for higher gears next truck you get.

I just got through talking to friend of mine who says his LS1 T/A can hit 140 in third, (6-speed). What a contrast, huh?
I guess I know a diverse crowd...

I honestly didnt know what I was buying as far as the gears go(i didnt check, all i knew is there was no leak and has a new oem tranny/w warrenty left, Considering what i paid for the truck, Guy practically gave me the truck so I cant complain.

KenB-
He may or may not be stretching things, but he did this with another friend of mine in the car who vouched for him. He has done several homemade modifications and I have been in that car with him when he got out of the gas doing 80 in 2nd and still pulling hard. Probably the fastest car I have been in, 5.0's included.
