Brake problems?

I think I may have a brake problem, or maybe just worn pads. It seems that I have to push down further then usual to get the same braking power. I few days before this happened I had a HIGH idle which made it difficult to stop, so maybe I just wore the pads down. I also noticed a small seapage comming out between the master cylinder and the power booster. Is this easy to replace? Any tips/ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Katt ,
If you have a leak there the master cylinder is dying / dead . Not too hard to replace , just make sure the new one gets bled well .

It definitely sounds like your master cylinder is on its way out. It really isn't that bad of a job just make sure you get ALL the air out like the post above said. It shouldn't break your bank account to get a rebuilt master cylinder. If you don't normally do your own maintenance you may consider taking it to a shop. Either way test the brakes repeatedly until you fill confortable with them before you hit the open road. Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone! I'll look into doing this myself, so I'll be asking some more soon! I try to do all maintainance myself, but this will be my first brake job.

Brake problems?

Okay, I found a new cylinder for $25.00 at Checker. They also have a master cyl. kit. Anyone know what the diff. is? Do I have to do anything with the vaccum booster, or leave it alone. Also, is there any adjusting I must do to the pushrod or anything. Im very open for tips and suggestions. Thanks
(PS- Is there any danger of the brakes completely going out on me without warning? Thanks)
Thanks again

The warning signs are already there. When changing M/C you'll disconnect the brake lines and the bolts that hold it to the booster. Mount the new m/c and bleed it according to the directions that come with the m/c. There shouldn't be any adjustments. Make certain the new one matches the old one. When changing pads make sure you get all the rust/debris off of all sliders and mounting points and put a small amount of grease on the mounting points so the calipers can slide. This would also be the ideal time to have the rotors turned and repack the front wheels.

Thanks for all the help everyone! I got the new cylinder in, bled the system, and the pedal is much firmer now! Next step: Replace the rear drum shoes, squeaky!
Thanks again!
