'99 Explorer running hot...

'99 Explorer running hot...

My girlfriends Explorer started running hot today. I am not sure as of this moment whether it's low on coolant. I will check that when i get home tonight. Is there anything that typically fails on these trucks? It has 104,000 miles, not sure if it's a factory water pump. I know to check the weep holes in the bottom for leaks, check the fan clutch, check the thermostat. Anything i am missing? Thanks

Start with the thermostat. Pretty common problem. Is it the 4.0 or 5.0 motor? Needless to say, you shouldn't drive it hot or you will have some major problems.

My 4.0 SOHC had a little overheat problem a couple of weeks ago.. stuck thermostat, which I changed and also changed the radiator cap at the same time....
