Running the Hypertech 3 with 5" exhaust and gauges. Notice egt increased over stock, probably a good idea to keep an eye on the temp, turbos are expensive.

Have heard of many people complaining of high egts with the hypertech. Personally I wouldn't run any tuner/chip without gauges. I don't think the benifits are worth the risk. But then again its your truck.

plb7723,

No matter what HP product you get you should ALWAYS use a pyro at least, and you really need a tranny gauge on autos and a boost is alwasy fun to have and can help you with driveability problems too.

I would reccomend the Edge Juice and Attitude, it has 80+ HP as is and you can always add the Evolution later for waaaay over 100 HP. It gets you HP changes as you drive, the gauges, EGT de fueling safety features too. Costs a little more than just a tuner and a set of gauges but in the long run you'll be better off.

Give us a call at the office if you have any questions etc.

Are these people towing a fifth wheel or boat when seeing high egt'? I have had my HPP3 installed for over a year and didn't know you had to have a guage. I do not tow anything, if it matters.

I have been running a Hypertech III for almost a year and if not pulling anything, I cannot get the EGT's high enough to worry about, HOWEVER it is CHEAP insurance to have guages. Running 70-75 MPH, I only run 700 degrees empty. WOT for 20 seconds achives about 1150 degrees (and a big grin). When pulling heavy trailors, it is pretty easy to achieve high EGTs. All temperatures are pre turbo.

Ok, now I have something to go on. I will be installing a Banks Monster Exhaust system tomorrow, along with a NAPA 6637 air filter. I think I will get me a EGT gauge, just to play it safe. Thanks.

Hypertech actually states on thier website that EGT isn't needed with the tuner. Does that make them open to liability for people who take that statement to heart? Also say's you can tow in 100HP mode! These statements seem pretty bold given today's litagation happy world. At least no one has found a severed finger in thier tuner! sorry......
