Speedometer bounce
My parents have a '98 F150 4x4, 4.6L, auto that has developed a bouncing speedo, and it won't read over about 30 -35 mph. I checked for codes at the OBDII connector and it did not have any. Is there a separate connection for trans codes? I checked wiring connections at the transfer case speed sensor, it was tight and unbroken. There is also a sensor on the rear axle-that is for the ABS-correct?
So...do I replace the speed sensor or does it use a gear like a cable drive speedo that can wear out?

Welll, I just dove in. The '98 4X4 has a speed sensor that runs off a standard speedometer gear in the transfer case. It was worn almost completely flat!! I replaced the gear for ~$8 from Ford and it works like a charm.
