How much money?

Alright I think this is the right place to post this. I am 16 and am going to be purchasing a truck pretty soon. My question is, how much should I pay for a 79 Ford F250? I've seen ones for $800 and up to $2000. I plan on getting one in good condition with no modifications. How much should this cost?

I plan on putting a lift on it and getting some new tires but that's another subject.

*edit*-I just read the rules and clicked the link for used car values. It said the average price would be $5000. This just seemed a little much but I may be wrong...

Well I live in Pennsylvania(Pittsburgh). I was just wondering why it would cost more out there.

You should read Post 3 on this thread, it explains a lot about Truck Values.

I did read it but I was still a little confused because I have seen such a wide variety of prices. I will probably do a little more research and ask some appraisers and/or my local mechanic. Thanks for the replies.

Stop at your local quick mart and buy a truck trader magazine. The trucks for sale by the locals will pretty much tell you what they are getting for them. Around here a F250 can go from $800 to $8000, depending on mileage, condition, 2 wd or 4 wd. Also watch the bidding prices of the F250's on ebay, that is a good indicator of what the market price is. Plus, you will get to see pics , and in depth descriptions of them on ebay. good luck.

Thanks for the answers. Most of them are around $1000 but hey, if I see a one in nice condition for $800 I'll be sure to jump on it.

i got my 76 F-150 (look in gallery) for 800 bucks a few years ago, i transplanted a 460 in it,(even though the original engine ran fine) put some nice wheels on it and its been a great truck since....granted, it still needs alot of work to be in original condition, but it runs great and has been very reliable for years......think of it like this, if you find a truck for 800-1000 bucks, your gonna have a good truck to start building on while your driving it everyday....if you spend 2000-5000 on one youll have a truck you wont have to do as much work to because someone else already has, or its one thats been well maintained over the years........every now and then you'll find one in great shape for a steal, just shop around and dont buy the first one you find, and like said before check truck traders, bargain posts, ebay etc.....good luck with your search......

Thanks for the advice. I am kinda a truck not but the only problem is,well, no truck. I've checked a couple out and have saved about $2000 from working. So I should have enough money for a decent truck with some left over. I'm looking for a new hobby and I think fixing up a truck sounds like a great one.
