Aftermarket DVD install (Rambunctious)

I am looking to install a dvd in my 04 screw. I don't know much about them...I do know it is for my kids (both < 5) so I don't want to spend a lot of cash. I have been looking online and this is what I was thinking:
*Boss 3800t DVD player in the glove box or center console
*1 Boss BV72M on each headrest (don't want to mount them in the headrest due to the ill nature of the cloth material)
I can get all that shipped for about $325 (doesn't include wire)

I can mount the displays and the DVD and run the wires to the displays. What makes me nervous is getting power to the DVD unit and hooking up the audio (DVD unit doesn't have an FM Modulator). I figured I could get 12V DC by splicing into the cigarette lighter. But the audio still has me puzzled.

I have read a lot of posts about the CanBuss system and was wondering if I could hook the audio through it and be able to activate the audio by pushing the "AUX" button on my factory radio (in-dash single cd)? What type of connectors would be needed?

Where is Rambunctious when you need him

Thanks ELO. The wife thinks the screens are too small on the bag units. She found an autiovox d1020 that she really likes though...probably what we are going to go with. It is $500 at BestBuy...going to check online today.
Key Features:
  • 10" LCD video monitor
  • 16/9 aspect ratio
  • built-in, slot type DVD player
  • plays DVDs, CDs, and MP3 discs
  • vehicle mounting kit
  • detachable external speakers
  • infrared wireless headphone transmitter
  • two sets of wireless headphones
  • cigarette lighter power adapter
  • wireless FM modulator
  • AC power adapter
  • TV tuner
  • coaxial TV antenna input
  • volume control
  • wireless remote
  • padded carrying case
  • 10-5/8"W x 7-13/16"H x 2-3/4"D
  • warranty: 1 year
  • designed for use with "Region 1" coded DVDs
I found another website that Rambunctious posted on...CanBuss only works with the factory dvd. Not about to drop the $$$ on that...plus I don't have the wiring harness.

here i am )

because of the can buss, the radio will only recognize a device that also uses canbuss for the communication.

so aftermarket radios will not be recognized by the radio. the aux button is only used when the factory dvd device is present (talks to radio using canbuss protocol......or in otherwords canbuss language or translator)

fm modulators aren't so bad unless you live in a large metro area with most fequencies covered by local radio stations.

and beside, how many time do YOU want to listen to ***** wonkas chocolae factory or shrek on the radio speakers ( heaphone are my savior)...ages 4 and 6 )

hope this helps

Thanks Rambunctious! We ended up getting the Audiovox d1020...it is going back though, for the second time. First time one of the external speakers would not lock in. After I got the second one I put it in the truck and since the seat backs are on such a big angle, the screen tips down and is hard to see. Also, the FM modulator is pretty bad-very scratchy. For $600-I want something better. I could throw in another 100 and get a laptop!
