I'm new to this forum and frankly I don't quite know much about trucks. But, I had a question. My boyfriend has a Ford Ranger, I believe a 1991. He wants a new system put into his truck so that he can have a cd player in it, it only has a cassette player at this moment. I want to surprise him and have one installed... Can any of you help me with some suggestions of what type of system I can get? I don't know if certain systems have to be compatible and what not. As I said, I really don't know anything about trucks... or vehicles in general, pretty much!
Enter the info for his truck at www.crutchfield.com & it will give you a list of stereos that will fit in his 91. Makes it VERY simple to pick the right one.
87 XLT has the right idea. If I'm not mistaken the '91 is simliar to the '93. Installing one yourself is easy as crap. I could be wrong. However. I recommend a good Pioneer deck. I'm a freak for them. I've *NEVER* had a problem with them.
If you get your radio from Crutchfield, they will include the wiring harness, otherwise go to best buy, circuit city, heck, even wal-mart. Then simply crimp the wires together (matching the colors essentially) and plug'er in. Will take you approximately half an hour.. maybe an hour tops. You'll also need the ford DIN radio removal tools I believe. Unless the '91 is different from the '93. Simply put it looks like a big U with odd looking ends kind of simliar to a very very small T. Anyway. Good luck. And crutchfield is the way to go.
i have a 97 for ranger i recently installed a new sterio system into. i got an adapter to convert the double-din into a single, then a single din sony deck. to compensate for an aftermarket deck, you will have to replace the speakers in order to keep from blowing out the stocks. i went with 4-way pioneer speakers. then because i hav jumper seats in the back, i put in a boss amp with 2 12" sony subs. i love it, and its probably more than i needed, but the system preforms very well in the small cab, and like my neighbor says, the entire dash still appears factory cut because of the conversion kit from the double to single din.
I put only a single 10" Pioneer @ 600 Watts. And that's more than enough for me.. two 12s is CRRAAAZZZYYYY. Hope you don't rattle loose any bolts or cab mounts.
Thank you Kijutsu. I looked at the Pioneer. That was actually the first model I looked at and liked. I believe a friend of mine has the DEH-P3700MP in his Chevy, so I know he'd be able to help me install it. And to Ken00, not sure if I plan on replacing the speakers or not. Never really thought about it. I'll have to take a look at what he has. Though, with his ratty old truck, I'd be afraid of something collapsing, knowing the way he listens to his music. lol
if u are buying an aftermarket deck, you will definitely need aftermarket speakers. a friend of mine swapped his tape deck for an aftermarket cd player, and now he only gets a low fuzzing from the speakers because the power was too much and fried the stock parts. and i love my 4 way pioneers, and the nice thing about pioneers is they are specifically designed to work well in fords, and they do.
When I got my truck, it had a Pioneer KEH-P3700 CD-ready tape deck in it. I had a Pioneer years ago and it ate tapes, so I've avoided them ever since. I guess things change, this one's given me no trouble. I wanted to add a CD changer, so I got a brand-new Pioneer CDX-P1270 off of Amazon.com for 75 bucks. It plugs right in to the P3700 and I'm quite happy with it. I'm still using the stock speakers, which are okay at the volume levels I usually listen at, but I'm planning to upgrade. My truck is an extended-cab with jump seats, and no one ever rides in the back so I removed the driver's side seat cushions and installed the changer behind the little door. It's totally hidden but easily accessible. So anyway, I too have become a proponant of Pioneer. After the speakers? maybe an amp...no sub though, I just hate those things! -TD
