Question oil plugs

I am building an 390 for my Ford F-100 4X4 and I was told that there are some oil plugs in the front of the motor that have to be pluged. So witch ones do?There are 3 holes right by the cam cover.
Thanks

oil plugs

The plug that gets overlooked is the one beside the distributor shaft. On the fe at eh front you can clearly see 2 plugs, but the one I mentioned is about 1.5 inches recessed it feeds the driver side oil gallery. If you sent the engine to a machine shop for hot tanking and cam bearings the plugs are probably gone. With the engine on a stand kneel down to the cam bore level and you will see the gallery bores or plugs. If one of the plugs are left out you will have little or no oil psi when the engine is hot.

Don't ask me how I know info.

a real ford mechanic

this past week i had the pleasure of talking 2 a 81yr old man that worked on fords from the model t up 2 the escorts.
he spoke of how he had worked in gas stations where he would completely rebuild engines.he was talking of the early engines that had 2 b rebuilt after 50,000 b/c of lack of good oils.
he had also worked on many ford trucks both 4wd and 2wd.he mentioned hand lapping valves and honing cylinders.
he wasnt bragging but just talking "matter of factly".it was really a treat 2 hear what he had 2 say which was quite vast.
then i realized that this man was 1 of a dying breed that is slowly dissapearing from our society.these guys were not technicians but the knowledge they possesed was totally based on experience attained by watching others and just gettin in there and doing it.
i tip my hat 2 these mechanics of the past.

I agree gdawg70250,82350. An older friend of mine is similar in his experinces on older Fords. He worked at the local Ford dealership in the 60`s and is a wealth of info for my trucks and Mustangs. He then ran his own service station and has retired in the last 6 years, great for me as he has time to work on my oldies! He hand lapped valves and honed the cylinders on my 390 and has it running as new. He is also of a dying breed that is slowly dissapearing never to be replaced as one that understands an old Ford completely from one end to the other, top to bottom.

The hole that is the topmost gets plugged and there is a bigger hole to the right that you could see the dizzy shaft through. Behind the dizzy shaft at the back there is another hole that gets plugged. I rebuilt my engine and forgot to put that one in. Oh man.
