A/C Repaired
11 months, 19,400 miles, 3 trips to dealer complaining about insufficient cooling. Would only cool on max/recirculate. The pressure gages indicated that the high & low pressures were at the proper levels. Last Friday afternoon the compressor locked up and the high pressure relief valve blew green oil all over the bottom of the truck. Casa Ford in El Paso put on the gages and the high side registered as high as the guage would go. The internal screen was full of metal so they installed a new compressor. The A/C now works very well. The replacement compressor was a little different than the original. The plastic/metal cone screen was a different color (one green the other orange - I dont remember which one was the old one) and the A/C tech said the new one had a larger orfice. I dont know if I always had an internal problem that effected the cooling, if I was always a little low on R134, or if the new compressor is just better than the original. Never any other problems with truck. 19,100 miles on Bridgestone Revos that still look new.
My wife had warned me (and then reminded me) that it was Fridat the 13th. However, this happened on a day that I could get away from work, just before it became summer hot (El Paso), CASA Ford got me in quickly and stayed past closing time to get the job done.
The 2004 ac blows cool, but it is weak. This is my first summer with it but so far i am not impressed.
