Tranny Slippage

I have a 92 F150 XL 4x4 with a 302 and AOD tranny. This only happens when it gets below freezing and the tranny is cold. The first time I go forward everything is ok until I come to my first stop. To get going again I have to rev the engine really high of wait 30 seconds before the tranny will engage. It's like the engine speed has to catch up to the tranny speed. Soon after, I'll be driving and the engine will start revving high without accelerating. After 5 minutes of driving it's fine. Does anyone else have this problem and if so would anyone know a fix?

Checked ATF level? The symptoms you describe sound like low fluid...
