New windshields

I was jsut curious how many people out there so far had to already replace thier windshields in thier new f-150s. The glass guys had a hard time with my new f-150. Anybody had a similar experience? Also the moldings that go along the roof and the sides of the windshield had to be replace. Did anyone else had to do that?

I bought my 04 on 9/6/03 and had to have the windshield replaced 9/16/03 because of a rock. Ther should be no reason to replace the mouldings, unless they screw it up. Once the moulding along the sides of the windshield is popped loose, the trim actually slides out toward the front. Goes back in the same way. Just slides in. The clips along the side of the windshield are plastic, so they have to be careful with those.

i have a screw and the back of the molding along the roof is double side tape and the part along the windshield has clips. These moldings are aluminum and once pulled off, they loose thier shape. I have been noticing the scab moldings and single cab moldings are different.

Wink

Mine had to be done about a month ago due to a rock. Had Safelite do it. I did

have to specifically ask for a Carlite model. I wanted it to be a factory piece. It costs a little more but I didn't care, State Farm was picking up the tab.

I watched them do the work and they had a hard time getting it out. Ford used a ton of sealant around the entire windshield. I didn't realize I had so much of the dreaded wind noise until I drove it away and it was sooo much quieter.

I have a feeling when I had mine replaced, there were no aftermarket. Mine does have the F150 logo in the middle.

I was told that only the factory carlite window has the logo, so your good. Yeah there was a ton of sealant around the glass. Did they have to break the glass a little when you had yours replaced???

As it was already badly cracked, it didn't take much to break it. They didn't have to, but it cracked quite a bit more.

Did you have to deal with getting little pieces of glass out of your interior, thats a pain to get all of it out.

I had my windshield broken by a rock the very first morning I drove my 04 F150 and the glass shop said the new style only had the OEM glass available (this was in August 04). My glass shop automatically ordered the moulding along with the glass and always replace it instead of trying to re-use it.

The difficult part was calling my insurance company and telling my agent I wanted to add the new truck to my policy and then immediately file a claim! He said this was a first!

I think the 150 logo on the windshield was put there because it is a copyright issue and only Ford can supply or authorize it. Several manufacturers did that some years back on bumper covers to keep aftermarket manufacturers from supplying them. Also, you may notice that aftermarket tailgates don't have the Ford or Chevrolet letters on them due to the same reason.

I had to have mine replaced about 2 months ago went to rinse it off in preparation to wash it and heard a popping noise looked at my windshield and it was cracked from the top to tha bottom all the way down the middle of the windshield. one quick word of advice if you do have to have one put in WATCH the knuclehead they send out to do it that moulding has 3 clips that hold it in my couple of hours without my truck turned in to a week long ordeal after they scratched the a pillars all the way down to the metal and had to repaint them, make sure they cushion those clips somehow
