Ok I thought I was the only one this was happening to, until I tried to open a buddy of mine's F250 Tailgate.
It seems like the handle sticks. You have to push the tailgate in and try to get it to catch and open...or stick the key in and lock it or unlock it to see if that opens it up.
Anyone else have a problem with their tailgates opening??? TIA..
The rods that connect the linkage inside the tailgate could be misaligned. Just open the access panel on the inside of the tailgate (its a TORX bolt, forget what size) and adjust the little plastic screw/clamps and that should take care of it.
Never had any problem opening or closing my gate. The only thing with it is that the passengers side will unlatch itself. The drivers side holds securly and so does the passenger side until I drive on the highway than when I get where I am going I notice that it is unlatched. So I push it back in till it locks and it unlatches again as soon as I am out on the highway. Tried lubing it numerous times to no avail.
