I was on ebay a mintue ago and got to thinkig about what some Nolan Ryan baseball cards I have at home were selling for, in particular they were from nolan Ryan's last year on the mound. I don't remember exactly which ones but if I saw a picture of them I would recognize them. Anyway I quit collecting them when I was 13 and I have no clue anymore what all I even have ina box at my parents house or what they are worth. I think I use to look in a magazine thing called beckett but I don't remember anymore if that is what it was or not. Does anyone know.
I know I also bought a something detailing Nolan Ryan's baseball career but I don't even remember what it is, I do wonder what it is worth though.
Is anyone still an avid baseball card fan that would know where to search for values of this stuff?
you can still get the beckett magazine at stores where they sell baseball cards. It will give you a rough idea as to how much cards are worth, but in order to sell them and make any money, you have to take them to a person who can 'grade' them. You do get charged a fee to have them 'graded', but I don't know what the rate is. I don't know if you get charged a flat fee or if they charge you depending on how much the card is worth.
We had a big surge of "card trading" here about 10 - 15 years ago and the market droped out of cards because of the number of "rare cards" that hit the market and the counterfit card that came out! Be very careful with who you trade with. Ask other traders how the faired with a given trader and shop. Here shops would tell you your card was worth a few dollars and then you would go in and find a price of 10 times what he gave you and the "rare card" you traded for is now worthless after you gave him boot to trade.
My advice would be to join the community over at Beckett.com. They are a treasure trove of information. Forums, pricing, etc. I would not sell them there however, as these guys are high-performance when it comes to trading/selling. Get them graded, figure out an aproximate worth, and put them on ebay as Sully has already suggested.
