got to drive the company truck on the beach today at my new job..95 1500 extende cab shortbed 4x4 automatic with 318...had to go through the sand to deliver generators and such...anwya, i am now wondering what is the gas mileage on these engines as well as older engines...and if anyone can lead me to horsepower and torque numbers I would apreiciate it.
About the best my 318 dakota will get is 18 on the HWY, barely got more than 14 mpg combined when driven semi-sane (it's a 5spd manual). It was moderately modified before I even got to 10K miles so I'm not quite sure what it got stock/broken in, but this seems about what to expect based on others info.
230 hp @4400
300 lb-ft @3200 Give or take 5 depending on model/application for both.
For comparison my 4.6 (auto) F150 gets up to 21/22 mpg on the same HWY trips. Though probably driven more conservatively, it definately gets better mpg. 3rd gear pull on the Dakota is too fun.
