1965 Mercury??
Since i've already tore into the mercury quite a bit I will continue with that project first.I have power discs in it and am going to be dropping a 1972 302 with the high compression. Next addition will be power sterring cause I have most of the parts. Since this Merc isn't original how much depreciation have I done by modding. This truck is a loaded custom cab because it has ALL the options.
John
I agree with John, in that Value is as arbitrary as style and model. Adding upgrades to safety, performance and creature comforts, as well as the appearance should not in any way reduce fair market value. I will add it most likely will increase it.
I'll put qualifying conditions on that. The conditions are: 1 So Long As You Don't Make Permanent Modifications. Meaning cutting and altering things so they are no longer able to return to OEM stock Condition. and 2 as long as you do nice work and don't cobble the Slick when you're retro fitting items to/on it.
Bolting things in place is not permanent alteration, cutting and welding frames and body and so forth is. Permanent alteration may or may not improve the market value, but for sure it will narrow down the potential market, IMHO.
If somebody is in the market for a "Stocker" they probably have no interest in a truck that needs or needed anything done to it. They most often want a clean, mostly original version that's been well kept and maintained, or so I have found. I saw a really pristine version at Carlisle they were asking $15K for . .It didn't sell while I was there.
So my bottom line with me is, it's my truck and I'll do it to suit me. Another thing I always told my clients is don't build it to suit the market, build it to suit yourself, but don't permanently alter or modify it in some custom manner, unless you plan to keep it forever. . . or are prepared to take some loss if you do sell it.

As for putting a Fleetside on a Ford product it would really look stupid, short or long!
Use a FoMoCo Styleside instead, eh?

The small block, while I am a great fan of them, is a tougher one for stock guys to choke down, However, with our well over $3 a gallon prices here in the land of milk and oil, I think its not gonna hurt you in resale. FE's are thirsty buggers.
Tastes in trucks are somewhat regional, as you know, flaresides are very common here, where short/wide stylesides are rare. especially before the late seventies in Fords. I would have done the same as you, in fact I did.

So, you've made your choice, in time maybe you'll even have 2! Best o' luck!

I have one of those front ends under Mammas 4X4 Aero . . altho' I'm not enraptured with the notion of Ball Joints, It's not so much approval, as a case of laziness on my part. I just find it easier to swap frames. Down here in the land of Beaches & BiKiNis frames are still plentiful & generally in good shape. Ergo the regionality issue again, . .
. . . Doncha see?
As fer retired . . . Ahyup! I am. I'm 19 & I've more than 47yrs experience at being 19. Don't let the name FORDBOY fool ya, it comes from "Bite Me Ford Boy" that many put on their brand X vehicles. My slick is set up so I usually am able to bite them good!
That makes them cranky, but when they discover I'm way older than my slick they get upset. Bad enough losing to a truck but losing badly to an Old Ford Truck driven by an even older guy in it has got to hurt their ego.

Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
It's all here Dan.
If it's not here already, just ask & somebody will put it here. Immeasurable wealth of FoMoCo & Ford, F-Series Truck, Specific, knowledge & experience is present among members here. They are THE BEST. No Doubt about it. I appreciate being corrected when I'm wrong. . that's one way I learn more.
As a long time Blue oval affecinado I've taken a load of #*!^%$@ from too many Orange replacement engine people, for too long. I shy away from using anything like brand names, brand style names, and other brand specific stuff they use. FoMoCo "ain't a underling" all those Orange Motor folks convinced themself it is. In fact aside from gross production numbers alone, quite the very opposite, or reverse is actually true.
FoMoCo or MoPaR invent and improve, then Great Myth pretty much copies others' ideas. It's been that way since William Durant started that company nearly 100 years ago. Some accuse Durant of being the P.T. Barnum of U.S. Automobile History. William Durant is said to have forged the terminology,
.... "there's an *** for every seat". Judging by what the company built over the years, I tend to think he really believed himself with that.
Never the less if your interest is 61-66 Ford F Series Trucks, aka FoMoCo Slick 60s Trucks, you're on one of the very best sites around specific to 'em.
So welcome Once more and We'll be looking for you on the boards Dan. Glad to have you along, can always use more good humor in life doncha know?

Seriously Dan, welcome aboard, b'sides anybody with initials DW has to be Okay!
As for navigating aids & options, on this site after a certain amount of posts life gets easier and ya can also post a lot more too, with more ease etc. etc. Don't worry you'll get the hang of it mostly all of us have. When I 1st started I realized I was an Idiot. I thought I outgrew that forty or fifty years ago, but NOPE! I are still an Idjit (at heart).
