Aux tank valve/switch

OK, here's one for the experts on this wonderful forum. (BS'er) I've got a 71CS, with totaly screwed up aux tank/valve/switch. I was wondering if any one has replaced the valve that switches between tanks with a more modern year. NPD has a switch for a 75-79 and a valve for a 78-79. Do you guys think this might be a good set-up? Thanks for the help...........jim

As in newer trucks with electric valves? I've had them fail on the company diesel and strand us. The 68 has three tanks but the valve is manual by the drivers door. Others will chime in.

JIMS71,
Is the valve shot, or are the connections screwed up? We can talk you through getting the hose connections straightened out if that's the problem. I thought those valves were pretty robust. Mine is original ('67) and it works great.

Hay Carl

I don't know if the valve is shot or not. I plumbed around it so that the cab tank is the only one in use. The aux tank is all crapped up from sitting for years. I don't see any wires at the valve that would switch the indicator for the gage. Soooo, I thought maybe it would be better to change the set-up all together. Maybe not?

Want to hear a good one, on the 68 CS 19.5 gal cab tank with after market saddle tanks outside frame by Travel Tanks, 18 gal each. Manual valve without floats or gauge for the saddle tanks. Run dry on the highway or stopped traffic is a pain besides looking like an idiot. May have to machine rings and weld to the thin gauge tank adding sending units. Do I hear a "BOOM" in my future? A double pole three position switch would be great, to retain the dash gauge. What's the resistance range for a fuel sending unit in 68 anyone?
