AC giving me numerous problems Please Help
I got the truck back and the air was warm, but I noticed the pipe that runs out of the top of the condensor and runs next to the evaporator was ice cold below the fitting, and warm above the fitting, so a buddy of mine who works on ac told me there was a little valve of some sort at that fitting, so I opened the fitting and there was a long slim valve looking thing with a screen on the outside, and it was totally clogged with junk, we took it out and cleaned it and my buddy vacuumed and filled the system and it blew ice cold, anyhow about two weeks later I noticed it was cloggign up again, so I took it and cleaned it again, I refilled the ac myself with one of those half *** recharge systems at the autoparts store, well it was cool but not cold, im assuming this is because I wasnt able to vacuum the system down, so I removed the valve and it wasnt clogged this time but it was cold below it and warm above it, so my friend told me he removed it on a friends ac and it worked no problem( I removed it because I figured the valve wasnt working), well this recharge system I have has a pressure guage and it says to not put the pressure above 45psi, well the system only took like a half can of freon before it was at 45 psi and its blowing warm, what am I doing wrong? Do I need the little valve and if so does anyone have a part number or know where to get one, and how do I get more than a half can in before its at 45psi?
Any info is appreciated.
Thanks
Rich
If I understand you correctly you removed the orifice tube which is a no no. You need the orifice tube to meter liquid freon into the evaporator where it becomes a gas and cause the colling process. Hate to tell you this but what you were seeing at the orifice is remnants of what they call black death usually caused by a failed compressor. Best bet would be to disconnect at the condensor, evaporator, orifice and drier and flush each component with lacquer thinner or equivalent A/C cleaner and compressed air until everything flushes clear. Hopefully the orifice screen has trapped any of the crap from getting to the compressor and drier. For each component that you flushed add 1 ounce of refrigerant oil. Replace the orifice tube, pull a vacuum for about an hour and then recharge. Let us know how it goes.
